Blueprint for Public Safety and Better Tomorrow.

Every Aurora resident deserves to feel safe and secure in their community. My commitment to public safety is unwavering, and it's rooted in a comprehensive approach that emphasizes prevention, intervention, and ongoing support.

I'm dedicated to investing in our law enforcement, equipping them with the necessary resources and fostering a community policing strategy. My involvement with the Transforming Safety bill, aimed at revitalizing North Aurora, has been instrumental in reducing crime rates and creating opportunities for individuals reintegrating into society after incarceration. As your Mayor, my mission is to cultivate an Aurora where safety is a reality for all.

The Plan - A New Era of Public Safety

Our vision for Aurora is one of safety, empathy, and community. We're committed to implementing innovative strategies that prioritize healing, understanding, and prevention. This comprehensive plan outlines our approach to public safety, focusing on restorative justice, youth engagement, and trauma-informed care. Join us as we work towards a safer, stronger Aurora for all.

1. Upholding Aurora's Consent Decree

In our pursuit of a safer Aurora, we must uphold and respect the agreements that bind us. The Consent Decree, a vital agreement between our city and the Department of Justice, is a commitment to reform and improve our police department. As your mayor, I will ensure that we honor this commitment, fostering transparency, accountability, and trust between our law enforcement and the community they serve. Upholding the Consent Decree is not just about meeting legal obligations, it's about affirming our dedication to justice, fairness, and the safety of all Aurorans.

2. Enhancing Restorative Justice Practices

Rob believes in the power of restorative justice, a practice that focuses on healing and community rather than punishment. He plans to enhance these practices in Aurora, fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and reconciliation. This approach not only addresses the harm caused by crime but also works to prevent future offenses by fostering understanding and promoting positive change.

  • Embracing Restorative Justice:
We'll implement restorative justice programs that prioritize healing and reconciliation, fostering a more compassionate and effective approach to justice.
  • Cultivating Empathy in Justice:
Our justice system will be transformed to foster a culture of empathy and understanding, ensuring fair and humane treatment for all.
  • Addressing Root Causes:
By working to understand and address the root causes of offenses, we can prevent future incidents and create a safer, more harmonious community.

3. Free Access to Recreation Centers and Reservoirs for Youth

Rob understands the importance of providing our youth with positive outlets for their energy and creativity. He proposes a free pass for all kids 18 and under to all recreation centers and reservoirs in Aurora. This initiative will not only provide our youth with fun and healthy activities but also help to keep them engaged and out of trouble.

  • Promoting Free Access to Recreation:
We'll provide free access to all recreation centers and reservoirs for kids 18 and under, ensuring every child in Aurora has the opportunity to play, learn, and grow.
  • Fostering Healthy Activities:
Our mission is to promote healthy and positive activities for our youth, contributing to their overall well-being and development.
  • Engaging Our Youth: By keeping our youth engaged in constructive activities, we can help steer them away from trouble and towards a brighter future.

4. Trauma-Informed Care Training for EMS, Fire, and Police

Rob recognizes the critical role that our emergency services play in responding to crises in our community. He proposes trauma-informed care training for all EMS, Fire, and Police personnel. This training will equip our first responders with the knowledge and skills to better understand and respond to individuals who have experienced trauma, ultimately leading to better outcomes for all involved.

  • Empowering Our First Responders: By equipping our first responders with the skills to better understand and respond to trauma, we can ensure more effective and compassionate service.
  • Trauma-Informed Training: We'll implement trauma-informed care training for all EMS, Fire, and Police personnel, ensuring they're equipped to handle situations with empathy and understanding.
  • Improving Trauma Outcomes: Our goal is to improve outcomes for individuals who have experienced trauma, fostering a safer and more supportive Aurora for all.
